Welcome to the world of JD dealers and name brand attachments. My dealer charges full list price for any attachmnents, and the JD list is MUCH higher than other brands. Hopefully someone can speak up and tell you who makes the JD hoe, and you can buy it from the manufacturer or from a dealer. This should same a few bucks from the JD price.

I just broke a fitting at the bottom of the tranny on my JD 4200 SST (right where the tranny filter goes in). This is the second time this year that I've broken the same dang fitting and dumped 6.5 gallons of hydraulic oil all over the ground. The first time I hit a sharp rock with it. This time I was clearing some heavy brush.

Has anyone else had this problem? It seems like a design flaw to me. Any suggestions?

I need to dig a shallow (7") deep trench for a single low voltage cable. The problem is it's 900 feet long, and the soil is very rocky. I was thinking of lowering one of the rippers on my box scraper and pulling that along to dig it. Any other ideas?

That works great if you have a decent dealer around. My local dealer is far more profit oriented than customer service oriented. He only carries the big name stuff, and only sells at list price. I often wonder how he stays in business. Must be that there's no nearby competition.

Thanks for your message. I am also just beginning the construction of a house, and have used that project to justify the purchase of my tractor. I think you just also justified the purchase of a utility trailer not only for transporting the tractor, but also for moving materials around, etc. I hope that others will share their experiences with tractor usage and home construction as well. So far, I have used my tractor (JD 4200) to remove dirt and rocks from the excavated site, and to clear areas for parking and vehicle turn around areas on my site. I also use it for repairing my temporary dirt driveway (about 900 ft. long).
